Bandit attack: ‘Trust govt for security,’ Ogbomoso Community Foundation urges Oloka community

Ogbomoso Community Foundation (OCF) has urged the people of Oloka community in Oriire local government area of Oyo state to trust the promise of adequate security made by the Oyo state governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, FNSE and heads of security agencies, following the brutal attack by suspected bandits in the community recently which claimed the lives of five park rangers with the National Park Service. The slain officers serving in the Old Oyo National Park were attacked in their office/residence at Oloka at about 10pm on the fateful day, with the attackers escaping into the forest. The incident stirred up panic in the agrarian community with many fleeing their homes.     Â
Â
OCF however in a letter signed by its Leader, Major General Oladayo Popoola (rtd) and Chairman, Engr. Abu Salami, while condemning the attack charged the people to remain calm and to trust the promise made by Governor Seyi Makinde during a visit last week.
Â
“Ogbomoso Community Foundation, an apex socio-cultural organization in Ogbomoso, commiserates the people of Oloka in Oriire local government area over the dastardly incident that happened in the community recently. It is cruelty beyond explanation. We condemn the attack and we especially identify with the families of the slain officers; may God give them comfort.Â
Â
“We commend the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde FNSE over his visit to the community last week. It is reassuring, it shows he is a leader that is sensitive and have empathy. We charge the people of the community and surrounding communities to trust the promise made by the governor and security agencies and remain calm. They have shown enough proactiveness. We urge those who have fled to return to continue their normal activities.”
Â
The group also commended the state governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for his various announcements during the on-the-spot assessment, including “payment of compensation of N5m each to the families of the five slain officers and award of scholarships to their children. It is also praiseworthy he promised rehabilitation of access road to the community, and provision of boreholes and streetlight. We are particularly excited about his readiness to explore the possibility of having a military base in the axis as a way of enhancing security. Ogbomoso zone is strategically located and such military base is ideal.”
Â
OCF also emphasized collaboration of all citizens with security agents “especially in the area of giving vital information in the spirit of ‘see something, say something.’ Security is a collective responsibility; we should all be vigilant and cooperate with both government and security personnel. This moment will surely pass.”  Â
